January Knot; First Square in 2023: A Year of Celtic Knots

This is going to be a great year!

I am excited about the theme for this year’s monthly squares: Celtic Knots! We did gnomes in 2021, and cats in 2022.

The designs I’ve drawn are sometimes traditional Celtic knots found on stonework, manuscripts, and metalwork in Ireland and sometimes I take a bit of creative license and draw a knot that follows the rules (never-ending, woven over and under itself) but is not something actually found in history.

The eBook listing will be updated monthly. Whether you receive an email or just a notification in your Ravelry inbox is dependent upon your Ravelry settings.

The eBook (on Ravelry or Etsy) is still your best deal. You’ll eventually receive all 12 Celtic knot squares (one a month) but you’ll save 40% compared to buying each square individually.

Each month’s square is also published on its own – and can make a great blanket by itself! Change up the colors or keep them simple, either way you will have something fabulous.

In case you haven’t checked out the landing page or watched my support video (embedded just below), please note that the interlocking version of each square is done from the bottom-up (like normal) and the overlay mosaic crochet option is made from the center-out (so there are no envelope borders needed).

• Chart is 81 x 81

• Gauge: 8 (dc, ch) x 8 rows = 4”

• 20″ x 20″ / 51cm x 51cm

• 4.5 mm hook (US7)

• Worsted weight yarn (490 – 565 yards total)

  • Main color (MC) (the knot, 1st color used) – 250 yards plus 75 for optional border

  • Accent color (AC) (background) – 240 yards

• Gauge: 16 sc blo stitches x 16 rows = 4”
